Klang

The Discord alternative that feels instant

Klang keeps what works in Discord (servers, channels, roles, DMs and voice) and changes three things: it answers every click on the spot, it has no ads, and its prices fit in one line.

Why people look for a Discord alternative

Discord is where a lot of us grew up talking online, and it does a lot. Over the years it has also added a shop, sponsored quests, ads you can tune but not switch off, and more features than most groups ever use. When the app you open every night starts to feel heavy, it’s fair to ask whether there’s something lighter that still does the part you care about.

Klang is built for that part: talking with your people, in text and voice, with screen sharing that you can actually read.

What stays the same

If you know Discord, you already know Klang. There are servers with text and voice channels in categories, roles with colors and per-channel permissions, invites that expire or run out, DMs and group chats of up to 10 people with voice and camera, replies, reactions with any emoji, GIFs, link previews, pins, search with filters and a notification bell. The desktop app shows what you’re playing, has system-wide push to talk and starts with your computer.

What changes

It feels instant. Klang draws your message in the same frame you press Enter and confirms it with the server in the background. Everything arrives over a live connection, and long channels only draw what’s on screen, so scrolling years of history stays smooth.

There are no ads. Klang makes money from subscriptions only. There’s no shop, no sponsored content and nothing in your chat that you didn’t put there.

The prices are short. Free covers chatting, voice and servers without limits. Plus is $4.99 a month and gets your screen to 1080p. Pro is $9.99 and adds 1080p at 60 fps, 500 MB files and a Tier 1 for one of your servers. Paying yearly costs ten months.

Your friends can join in seconds. Anyone can open an invite and talk as a guest, without an account. If they stay, they create one and keep everything.

What Klang doesn’t do (yet)

Being honest saves everyone time. Klang has no bots or public API, no threads or forums, no custom emoji or stickers, no stage channels or events, and no native mobile apps yet (the web app works in your phone’s browser). Camera video is available in DMs and group calls, but not in server voice channels. If your community depends on any of these, Discord is still the better fit today.

How to move your group

Create a server (templates set up the channels for you), send the invite link to your group and keep both apps open for a week while people settle in. Our step-by-step guide covers the details, from roles to announcing the move.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free Discord alternative?

It depends on what you use Discord for. If it’s talking with friends and communities, Klang covers the same ground for free (servers, DMs, voice and screen sharing) with no ads. If you depend on bots or forums, Discord still does more.

Is Klang free?

Yes. Messages, voice, friends, servers and history are free and unlimited. Plus ($4.99 a month) and Pro ($9.99 a month) add better screen sharing, bigger files and animated profiles.

Can I import my Discord server into Klang?

There’s no automatic import. Creating a server takes one step, with templates that set up the channels for you, and an invite link brings your people over.

Does Klang work on Windows, Mac and Linux?

Yes. There are desktop apps for Windows 10 and 11, macOS on Apple Silicon and Linux, and the same app runs in any modern browser.

Does Klang have ads?

No. Klang is paid for by its subscriptions, Plus and Pro for people and Tier 1 and Tier 2 for servers.
